UFC 92, the last mixed martial arts fight showdown of 2008 is eagerly anticipated by every UFC aficionado. It will not only have a main event in the Rashad Evans vs Forrest Griffin match up, UFC 92 will also be featuring two other big co-main events - the UFC
interim heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira against former UFC heavyweight champion and current number-one heavyweight contender Frank Mir, and former UFC light-heavyweight champion Quinton Jackson against former PRIDE champion Wanderlei Silva.
UFC 92 Update: Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira never had a shot. Frank Mir, the submission specialist, did his best Klitschko impression by schooling Big Nog in a boxing match. Mir pounded Nogueira time after time in the opening round with right uppercuts fighting out of a southpaw stance. Nogueira simply couldn't see the punches coming and went down three times in the round. It was the same deal in the second as Mir doubled up left hooks and floored Nogueira. He jumped on top and threw nine more strikes. Referee Herb Dean had to step in to save a stunned Nogueira at 1:54 of the second.
Quinton Jackson fought at a measured pace and let Silva stalk him for the first two minutes of the first round. Silva tried a three-punch flurry and Jackson countered with a thundering left hook that blasted Silva on the chin. "The Axe Murderer" was out before he hit the floor. When he did, his arms went straight back like he was making a snow angel. Jackson jumped on top to finish the fight with three more punches. Referee Yves Lavigne wrestled him away from Silva, who remained on the mat for a few minutes after the fight.
Rashad Evans took Forrest Griffin to the ground and pounded away to become the new UFC light heavyweight champ.

Who will prevail in each of the fights? Will Evans be able to overcome a height and reach advantage to conquer Griffin? Evans was a very good college wrestler who has demonstrated real knockout power, and I'm tempted to pick him. But I think Griffin is going to show off his underrated Brazilian jiu jitsu and win this fight on the ground. Moreover, Griffin was impressive when he submitted Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in 2007, at a time when Rua was rated No. 2 in the world. He then went on to win the title by taking a decision over Quinton “Rampage” Jackson.
In the other match, can Frank Mir stop Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira? The former PRIDE heavyweight champion, who has fought some of the biggest and baddest men in the sport in 37 professional fights, has never been stopped. It is for this reason that even Mir refers to him as a cockroach that can’t be killed. For this fight, the cockroach will still probably prevail. The winner of this fight will later face UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar (UFC 91 winner) for a title-unification bout in early 2009 and I think Nogueira will be it. though Frank Mir boasts of his great physical conditioning for this bout, the more likely result is that Nogueira will show us why he's one of the legends of the sport.
Wanderlei Silva, the former longtime PRIDE 205-pound champion, scored a pair of devastating victories over Jackson when both fought in PRIDE. His knees and his kicks were the difference and in each fight, Jackson needed to be saved by the referee. The losses haven’t humbled Jackson, who said in an interview with UFC.com that he’s not afraid of Silva and that he doesn’t expect Silva to get lucky again. Quinton 'Rampage' Jackson has improved a lot since then in the areas of skill, technique and physical conditioning, and Silva, who at 32 is two years older than Jackson, probably isn't as good a fighter as he was then. However, many still believe that Silva is going to come into this fight with a game plan that will give Jackson fits.
