Assam Train Blast
A blast on a passenger train in Assam's Karbi Anglong district has left three dead and about 17 people injured. The passenger train runs between Guwahati and Tinsukhia in Upper Assam. The blast took place at Diphu station in Karbi Anglong district around 8:10 am on Tuesday 2nd December, 2008.
Three deceased were identified as Kamal Singh Teron (26 years), Raj Debnath ( 35 years) and Ratul Dhan ( 7 years). Six seriously injured people were shifted to Gauhati Medical College Hospital and four to Dimapur military hospital in Nagaland.The bomb was kept at the upper berth of a coach of the train. A timer device was found from the blast spot.
A police spokesman said the explosion went off as the train was stopped at a railway station about 300 kilometers (190 miles) east of Assam's main city of Guwahati.There are a large number of women and children among the casualties Repotor said.
